Every prepared answer is tied to an exact evidence revision. This page records what Canada in Data added, updated, or removed—separately from changes in the underlying indicators.
Differences describe recorded Canada in Data evidence snapshots. They do not prove when or why Statistics Canada changed data, that an underlying indicator changed, or that no revisions occurred between captures.
update
Poverty, household finances and the wider picture
Added in-app charts for poverty, household debt service, food insecurity, education, population, crime severity and greenhouse-gas accounts from exact Statistics Canada series.
168 added answers
14 added questions
7 added source tables
12 added comparisons
4112 added observations
Every previous prepared answer, source context and observation is unchanged. Only the newly qualified questions and their actual available geographies are added.
Method and release notes
Poverty uses the 2023-base Market Basket Measure; the after-tax Low Income Measure is a separate concept. Canada includes the territories only from 2018. Missing and unreliable observations remain unavailable. Child-poverty trends are unavailable in Yukon and the Northwest Territories.
Debt-service ratios are Canada-only quarterly observations, seasonally adjusted at annual rates. Original Ratio units are retained; principal and interest payments use household disposable income before interest as the denominator.
Food insecurity retains severity categories and quality flags. Education covers ages 25–64; the Canada aggregate excludes territories even though territorial observations exist separately. Tertiary education includes college.
Population estimates refer to July 1. The 2025 figures are preliminary postcensal estimates despite normal observation flags; territorial history and geographic changes remain qualified.
Crime severity is an index, not a crime rate or an overall safety score. Greenhouse-gas observations are the physical-flow account for industries and households, distinct from the national territorial inventory. Household emissions are direct emissions, not a consumption footprint.
Added all-cause and cancer mortality rates for Canada, all ten provinces and all three territories from exact Statistics Canada series, with the source standard population and qualifications.

Verified that all 510 existing answer records and all 35,879 existing observations are exactly unchanged. Added only the two qualified mortality questions.
Method and release notes
Both-sexes annual mortality rates cover 2000–2024 and use the estimated 2021 Canadian population for age standardization. Cancer here means mortality from malignant neoplasms, not cancer incidence.
The source identifies 2024 as preliminary despite unmarked observation flags. Every answer and comparison preserves that qualification, possible revisions, coding changes in 2013 and 2017, and uncertainty in Yukon figures for 2017–2022.
Geographic membership follows usual residence. Source labels remain intact; unknown residence is excluded. Rates exclude non-residents of Canada and stillbirths. Missing or suppressed values remain unavailable, never reconstructed.
Preserved source qualifications in compiled housing, labour-market and GDP answers: historical geography changes, Canada labour coverage excluding the territories, and the scope of the Canada GDP accounts.

No observations added, updated, or removed
Rebuilt the snapshot through the same source collector and verified exact equality of every observation, period, status, precision, unit, scale, source identity and source date. Only context changed.
Method and release notes
All 35,879 observations are unchanged. This correction changes explanatory context rather than source values or geography identities.
The three annual CMHC housing questions now carry the source warning about census geography changes in every answer and province comparison. These histories describe recorded counts and are not strictly comparable across all years.
The Canada coverage restriction is now visible in both existing annual and new monthly labour-market answers. Provincial answers retain their own source geography.
The Canada real-GDP answer now identifies the provincial and territorial accounts and explains that this total can differ from national accounts estimates before annual revisions.
Added exact housing-cost and everyday-price indexes, new-home prices, housing construction, monthly labour-market rates, average weekly earnings and real GDP from Statistics Canada.

Compared exact question-place observations and source context with the prior checked-in snapshot; existing observation values are unchanged.
Method and release notes
Consumer Price Index components describe price changes, not dollar rent levels or differences in living costs between provinces. Mortgage-interest costs are published for Canada only; natural-gas coverage excludes the Atlantic provinces.
New housing price indexes cover newly built houses; they are not resale-home prices or average home values. The base is December 2016 = 100.
Annual all-area housing starts run through 2025; published annual completion and under-construction histories end in 2022. CMHC source notes warn that changing geographic definitions limit historical comparability.
Monthly labour-market rates are seasonally adjusted. Average weekly earnings include overtime and use the industrial aggregate excluding unclassified businesses; they do not describe all workers or after-tax household income.
Real GDP is expressed in millions of chained 2017 dollars. Existing source observations are unchanged; eleven existing CPI answers received refreshed source context.
Added a prepared answer and comparison for English spoken at home across Canada, every province, and every territory, removing its dependency on live metadata during a user request.

Method and release notes
The new prepared series contains four occasional observations: 2001, 2006, 2011, and 2016.
Every answer and comparison carries the source warning that the census observations were not standardized for historical comparability.
The release records a new prepared evidence source; it does not imply that the underlying indicator was updated in 2026.
Each table keeps the source date recorded in the snapshot and its official link. Counts describe the prepared Canada in Data evidence derived from that table.
